Luxury Candle Making: Creating Scented Candles with Unique Containers

Have you attended a Starlite Soap Studio soy wax or beeswax candle-making workshop? They are always so much fun, you'll learn all the tips and tricks for making perfect candles, and make a nice haul of products to take home!

There's nothing quite like the warm glow and comforting scent of a candle to create a cozy atmosphere in your home. But what if you could take your candle game to the next level with unique and luxurious containers?

In this blog post, we'll explore the art of luxury candle making and how to create scented candles with unique containers.

Choosing Your Container

When it comes to creating luxury candles, the container you choose is just as important as the fragrance you select. A unique and visually appealing container can elevate the overall aesthetic of your candle and make it a statement piece in your home. During Starlite's workshops, we use whisky glasses, aluminum travel tins and mason jars, however when making candles at home, you might want to consider a few other unique ideas such as:

  1. Vintage tea cups and saucers
  2. Glass jars with ornate lids
  3. Concrete or marble vessels
  4. Ceramic or pottery bowls
  5. Seashells or coconut shells

The possibilities are endless! When selecting your container, make sure it's heat-resistant and large enough to hold your desired amount of wax.

Selecting Your Fragrance

Once you've chosen your container, it's time to select the fragrance for your candle. This is where you can really get creative and have fun with different scents. Here are some fragrance ideas to get you started:

  1. Floral scents like lavender, rose, and jasmine
  2. Woodsy scents like cedarwood, sandalwood, and pine
  3. Citrus scents like lemon, grapefruit, and orange
  4. Spicy scents like cinnamon, clove, and ginger
  5. Unique scents like tobacco, leather, and coffee

Many of these scents are available at no extra charge as part of a Starlite workshop, and available for sale in-store for home-based candle making!

Making Your Candle

Now that you have your container and fragrance, it's time to start making your candle, gather your materials: soy wax flakes, fragrance oil, candle wicks, double boiler, thermometer and glue dots for holding your wicks in place. The wax, wicks, scent and other candle-making needs are available from many retailers, including Starlite Soap Studio. To pull everything together, melt the soy wax flakes in a double boiler on low heat, stirring occasionally. Once melted, remove from heat and let cool to about 70 degrees Celsius. Add the fragrance oil and stir well. Attach the wick to the bottom of your container using a glue dot or "wick stickie" and then pour the melted wax into the container and let cool for several hours. Be sure to trim the wax to 3 or 4mm before burning.

Tips for Success

Here are some tips to help ensure success when making your luxury candles:

  1. Use a thermometer to make sure your wax is at the right temperature before adding your fragrance.
  2. Let your candle cool completely before trimming the wick or lighting it.
  3. Experiment with different wick sizes to find the right fit for your container and wax.
  4. Don't be afraid to get creative with your fragrance combinations and container choices.
